Healing nature

Establishing a connection with nature provides relief to overworked parts of the mind, allowing them to relax. This connection triggers the release of beneficial hormones in your body, reducing feelings of sadness, irritation and anxiety. This practice is effective for reducing stress and fatigue, as well as combating depression and anxiety.

It is widely recognized that being in contact with nature increases immunity and speeds recovery from injuries or surgeries. The positive influence of nature extends to both the mind and body, improving heart and lung health and enhancing the ability to focus, concentrate and memory.

Some trees, such as conifers, release oils and compounds as a defense mechanism against microbes and pathogens. These substances, known as phytoncides, also benefit our immune system. Simply breathing forest air increases the number of "natural killer" (NK) cells in our bloodstream, which play a crucial role in fighting infections, cancer and tumors.

One of the consequences of connecting with nature is the improvement of emotional intelligence and self-confidence, promoting more satisfactory interpersonal relationships and an improvement in social health.

What is forest bathing?

Forest bathing is the practice of consciously immersing yourself in the forest. Using your senses to connect with nature and obtain a number of benefits for your physical, mental, emotional and social health. It is also known as Shinrin-yoku. Shinrin means forest and Yoku means Bath. Therefore, shirin-yoku means bathing in the atmosphere of the forest.

The idea was born in Japan in the 80s of the last century and has proven to be a very effective tool for overcoming the harmful effects of a busy life and a stressful work environment.

How do I practice forest bathing?

You can practice forest bathing in any safe space in nature. The crucial principles involve going quietly and slowly. Use your senses to find elements in nature that bring you peace and happiness.

Through activities that connect with nature and sensory exercises, you can change your mood and energy levels, resulting in a series of benefits. The recommended time for forest bathing is at least 2 hours per week.
